Lancaster County PA Realty Check: November 2007

On a windy late November day, I passed over the Chickies Hill between Marietta and Columbia, PA.  Shortly before Columbia, I stopped at the Breezy View Overlook.

       Just off Pennsylvania Route 441, the Overlook offers a spectacular view of the Susquehanna River.

"Breezy View" was an understatement on this windy November day - I had to stay away from the edge to make sure the wind wouldn't blow me over the precipice, which is steeper than it looks in the photograph!

                                 The Susquehanna Heritage Trail runs along the overlook.

                      A picnic area serves as a pleasant place for a repast in warmer weather.

Burning Bridge Antiques, located at 304 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA, is going upscale for the holidays!

            Manager Lou Girolami is decorating the store windows in New York City style this season.

                                     This one is called "Champaigne Punch by Tiffany's".

                               This window is called "Scooters in the Sky by FAO Schwartz".

As I prepare for our national day of thanks tomorrow, I'm reflecting on the blessings that we enjoy.  Despite the record gasoline prices of well over $3.00/gallon, a record 38 Million Americans will be traveling at least 50 miles tomorrow - a fact that bespeaks a still healthy economy, despite uncertainties on the horizon.

Even the poorest folks in the USA have access to good food, automobiles and cable TV.  Although our brave troops are protecting our nation overseas, our homeland is at peace because of their efforts.

I feel blessed to have family with whom I can celebrate, good friends, and our wonderful community here in Active Rain.  Please be safe if you are traveling over the holidays!

I have recently completed training for the SRES designation of Seniors Real Estate Specialist(R), and am now a candidate for the designation, pending the results of the final examination and acceptance by NAR.  I had the privilege of taking this 14-hour course as part of the very first class ever held in the brand new RAYAC headquarters (Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties) in York, PA. 

Seniors Real Estate Specialists are Realtors(R) qualified to address the needs of home buyers age 50-plus.  Those Realtors who earn the designation have demonstrated the knowledge and expertise to counsel clients age 50-plus through major financial and lifestyle transitions involved in relocating, refinancing, or selling the family home.  Seniors Real Estate Specialists get regular updates and are prepared to offer the options and information needed in making life changing decisions.

  Work continues on the Lancaster County, PA Convention Center and Marriott Hotel, as the steel framing takes shape!

            The steel framing for the Exposition Level (main floor) is on track to be up by Thanksgiving.

                  The concrete work for the entry level below the main level is already well under way.

                                                    Above is the start of the concrete elevator shaft.

  There will be five main levels including the Convention Center.  The fifth level cuts back toward the tower.

       Floors six through nineteen of the tower will be the Marriott Hotel.  (There will be no 13th floor.)

                                         Completion of the entire project is planned for 2009.
